Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Julissa Syed is a full-spectrum doula dedicated to supporting individuals and families through life's most tender and transformative chapters. Her approach to care is rooted in empathy, intentionality, and the belief that every person deserves to feel informed, respected, and empowered throughout their reproductive journey. Julissa received her full-spectrum doula education through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT), where she developed a strong foundation in inclusive, culturally responsive, and evidence-based care. The deeply empathetic and comprehensive nature of her training strengthened her commitment to honoring the diverse experiences, identities, and circumstances that shape each person's journey. She has also completed Spinning Babies® workshops, further enriching her understanding of physiological birth, fetal positioning, and comfort measures throughout pregnancy and labor.
Julissa's devotion to this work began long before she considered it a profession. From childhood, she was captivated by pregnancy, birth, and the extraordinary experience of becoming a parent. As she grew older, that fascination blossomed into a desire not only to experience motherhood herself one day, but to walk alongside others as they entered this tender and life-altering season. Today, she brings that same sense of wonder to her care, believing that meaningful doula support extends far beyond physical comfort and preparation. She values genuine human connection, informed decision-making, and the importance of honoring each individual's autonomy. With a gentle, grounding presence, Julissa strives to create an environment where questions are welcomed, choices are respected, and every person feels seen, heard, and supported. Her approach thoughtfully balances evidence-based education, holistic practices, emotional reassurance, and a deep appreciation for the individuality of every experience.
Beyond her work as a doula, Julissa is a creative and introspective soul who finds beauty in life's quieter moments. She enjoys pottery, knitting, reading, puzzling, astrology, yoga, hiking, traveling, and spending time in nature, particularly near the ocean. She cherishes meaningful conversations, intentional sustainable living, and the simple joy of sharing life with her husband. Her appreciation for creativity, connection, and the natural rhythms of life reflects the philosophy she brings to her work: that transformation is not something to be hurried, but something to be honored, nurtured, and held with care.
I believe every person deserves to feel deeply supported, genuinely heard, and empowered as they navigate one of life's most profound transformations. To me, this work is both a privilege and a responsibility, allowing me to honor the individuality of each journey while offering a steady, empathetic presence through moments of vulnerability and joy. Above all, I hope the families I support walk away feeling not only cared for, but more confident in themselves and their choices.
