La Trese Phillips is a full spectrum doula supporting families through birth and postpartum in Chicago, Illinois. She believes deeply in caring for the mind, body and soul, bringing warmth, compassion, and evidence-based birthing practices to every family she serves.
A new graduate of Embrace full spectrum doula training, LaTrese brings decades of healthcare experience to her doula work. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in nursing and has supported loved ones through their birthing experiences. Although she fell in love with labor and delivery during her undergraduate years, her nursing journey began in med/surg. After hearing her daughter and others share their fears about childbirth, La Trese knew it was time to return to her passion for supporting birthing families.
With her cheerful spirit, mother’s wit, and a calm grounded presence, La Trese is the kind of person you want beside you when things are uncertain. She is thoughtful, dependable, and dedicated to helping families feel informed, empowered, and cared for throughout their journey.
Outside of doula work, La Trese loves dancing to house music, reading, traveling, coloring, laughing and cooking delicious meals for the people she loves. At the heart of everything she does is a genuine love for people and a desire to make others feel safe, supported and seen.
I believe every parent deserves support in creating the birth experience that feels right for them. Birth is deeply personal, and parents should feel heard, respected, and empowered in their choices. We only get one chance to make this experience what they envisioned, and they deserve compassionate support every step of the way.
