Bio

Leila Walker (she, her) is a queer full spectrum doula living in Chicago. She centers the uniqueness of each family in the support she provides, while always centering evidence-based and trauma-informed care. Leila believes deeply that knowledge is power, and uses this framework prenatally and in birth to help people feel empowered throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Leila has been a birthworker for the past three years, focusing on birth and postpartum support. She’s supported over 45 births and over 50 postpartum families. Leila also teaches childbirth education. Before becoming a doula, Leila was a middle school reading and social studies teacher and this helps her understand that each person and family learns differently, and she uses her skills as a teacher to help her clients access information in the way that is best for them. Fundamentally, Leila believes that every person deserves to feel safe, loved, and respected. She shows up for families by getting to know each member of the family deeply and personally, and tailoring her support to what each family needs.

Outside of birthwork, Leila loves to cook, knit, hang out with friends, and travel! Leaning into community brings her joy, so she spends a lot of time volunteering, organizing, and staying active in the Chicagoland area.

Message to new parents

I believe every parent deserves to feel safe, respected, and loved throughout their pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experience. At the end of the day, by goal is to help clients feel empowered in the uniqueness of their journey, amplifying their own voices to advocate, and feel proud of themselves as they enter the next chapter of their story.
