Maggy Hovden is a certified full-spectrum doula (BADT) and licensed social worker in Chicago, Illinois. She believes every family deserves to feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She brings a calm, compassionate presence to every family she works with, meeting people exactly where they are with curiosity and respect.
After graduating from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor's degree in global health studies and Spanish, Maggy served a 1,700-hour AmeriCorps service term in Phoenix, Arizona where she lived in a maternity home with seven pregnant and parenting women who were previously unhoused, supporting them as they navigated the transition to motherhood. Maggy moved to Chicago in 2023 to pursue a Master of Arts in Social Work, Policy, and Practice at the University of Chicago Crown Family School where she received training in trauma-informed care, domestic violence advocacy, infant mental health, and refugee resettlement support. Growing up on a farm in rural Iowa, Maggy was drawn to birth work at a very young age, helping her dad deliver baby cows every spring. At the core of her work, Maggy is driven by the belief that everyone should have access to respectful care and the education to make informed, autonomous choices about their body and family. Clients often describe her as grounding, thoughtful, and invested in their wellbeing. Outside of doula work, Maggy enjoys baking banana bread, walking along the lakefront, watching live music, and trying new restaurants!
Supporting families during this transition is one of the greatest privileges of my life. My hope is that you feel cared for not just as a parent, but as a whole person, and that you leave our time together feeling more confident, connected, and trusting of yourself than when we began.
