Shamara Calhoun

Shamara Calhoun is a Certified Full Spectrum Doula based in the Chicagoland Suburbs. Shamara brings passion, calmness and evidence based practice to birthing and postpartum persons. Shamara is dedicated to making sure that birthing people are heard and educated in maternal health. As a Full Spectrum Doula, Shamara also brings her knowledge of early childhood education. She has her Masters Degree in Early Childhood from National Louis University. She has worked in the Chicago Public School district for over 13 years. Working in the classroom as a teacher assistant and sometimes the teacher. 

Shamara began working as a Doula in 2021 with her certification from Gifted Hands International. She also received additional training from Dona International as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. Shamara has also received her 500 hour certification as a Yoga instructor and SEL facilitator. Her approach provides a birthing experience that is culturally appropriate, trauma informed and equitable. 

As a postpartum doula Shamara is dedicated to supporting families through the beautiful and sometimes overwhelming transition into life with a newborn. With a calm, compassionate presence, she provides nonjudgmental care that nurtures both baby and parents. She believes every family deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported during the fourth trimester. Shamara is looking forward to caring for families and giving them the support that they need. 

My hope is for families to feel cared for and supported during the most precious time.
