Valencia Potts is a full-spectrum doula servicing Northwest Indiana and Illinois, supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum transition. As a mother and experienced birth professional, Valencia brings both personal understanding and professional training to her work. Her approach centers on compassionate, evidence-informed, trauma-informed care that recognizes each family’s individual needs, values, culture, lived experiences, and birth preferences.
Valencia’s passion for doula work grew from her own experiences navigating pregnancy, birth, and motherhood and a desire to help families feel more informed, confident, and supported during one of life’s most transformative transitions. Her areas of expertise include birth preparation, labor and comfort support, reproductive and maternal wellness, body awareness, postpartum education, and supporting families navigating previous difficult or traumatic birth experiences. She is particularly passionate about trauma-informed care and creating an environment where families feel emotionally and physically safe, heard, respected, and empowered. Valencia understands that pregnancy and birth can bring up a wide range of emotions and experiences, and she approaches each family with patience, cultural humility, compassion, and without judgment.
Families can expect Valencia to be a calm, grounding, and dependable presence throughout their birth experience. She combines evidence-based education, attentive listening, advocacy, hands-on comfort measures, and an understanding of the connection between the body, emotions, and nervous system. Her goal is not to direct a family’s birth, but to help them understand their options, communicate their needs, and remain active participants in their care while honoring the expertise and role of the medical team. Valencia believes every family deserves respectful, individualized support regardless of how their birth unfolds, and she is committed to helping families feel informed and supported whether they experience an uncomplicated birth, an unexpected intervention, a planned or unplanned cesarean, or a significant change in their birth plan.
Outside of doula work, Valencia enjoys spending time with her children, learning about birth, human development, and the mind-body connection, and creating meaningful spaces where people feel supported, seen, and cared for. Her personal experiences, professional training, and whole-person approach allow her to bring both compassion and practical support to one of the most significant transitions a family can experience.
I believe every parent deserves to feel heard, respected, informed, and supported throughout their birth experience, regardless of how their birth unfolds. I’m here to remind you that you don’t have to navigate this transition alone — I’m honored to provide a calm, compassionate presence while helping you understand your options, trust your voice, and feel confident advocating for yourself and your baby. Supporting families during this transition is a privilege because birth is more than a medical event — it is a deeply personal experience that deserves care, dignity, and compassion.
