Barbara Garza is a dedicated and compassionate doula, with over 25 years of experience in the medical field, including specialized work in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and emergency room services at different times throughout her career. As a mother of seven, Barbara brings a unique blend of clinical knowledge and personal experience to her practice, offering deeply empathetic and empowering support to expectant mothers and families. Her own journey through childbirth—including several experiences where she felt unheard and unsupported—fuels her passion for making sure every parent feels seen, respected, and in control of their birth experience.
In addition to her doula work, Barbara has a rich background in medical education, having taught anatomy and physiology, medical assisting, and emergency services. While these may seem outside the scope of traditional doula care, this experience has given her a comprehensive understanding of both the clinical and emotional sides of pregnancy and birth. Having worked on “the other side of the bed,” she knows the hospital system intimately—and uses that insight to better advocate for her clients, helping them navigate care with confidence, clarity, and calm.
Barbara firmly believes that all birthing individuals should have the opportunity to create a birth plan that reflects their values, desires, and needs—as long as the health and safety of mom and baby remain the priority. She works especially closely with low-income families across Chicago and its suburbs, offering accessible doula services and teaching CPR to new parents, so they feel prepared and empowered in every stage of parenthood.
What makes Barbara’s practice truly unique is her calling: to serve mothers. Her life’s mission is rooted in compassion, strength, and unwavering support. She walks beside her clients during one of the most sacred and transformative moments of their lives—offering not just care, but heart.
My hope for you is that you feel deeply supported, heard, and empowered through every step of your journey into parenthood. I’ve chosen this path because I believe every mother deserves compassionate care, informed choices, and someone by her side who truly understands both the medical and emotional sides of birth.
